What is Roxbury About?
Natural and handmade products at small town market prices
Roxbury Homestead is more than a place—it’s a way of life. Nestled in the heart of New Plymouth, our quarter acre homestead is built on the belief that living simply and naturally brings us closer to what matters most: our land, our community, and our well-being.
Our journey began with a love for growing and making things by hand. With a thriving vegetable garden and buzzing beehives, we were already embracing a slower, more intentional lifestyle. Over time, we found ourselves pausing to reflect on the choices we made each day—reconsidering the products we used and the impact we had on the world around us.
We began making more of our own household items, welcomed chickens to our homestead, and started crafting with beeswax from our hives. As we learned and experimented, we became more mindful of the chemicals hidden in everyday products and more determined to reduce our reliance on store-bought goods. We also embraced solar energy, finding joy in these small changes that gradually grew into a larger philosophy—one rooted in sustainability, self-sufficiency, and care.
Living more sustainably didn’t mean giving up the small luxuries that bring joy to everyday life. I’ve always been drawn to the quiet comfort of a softly flickering candle and the skin nourishment of natural soaps and creams. There’s something about the ambience they create—gentle, grounding, and indulgent in the best way. But as I searched for non‑paraffin candles and vegetable oil–based soaps, I kept running into the same problem: the cleaner the ingredients, the higher the price tag. And more often than not, they came wrapped in fancy packaging that looked luxurious but only added another item to the landfill.
So I began experimenting. I learned how to source quality materials and started crafting my own little luxuries—for personal use and as heartfelt gifts for friends and family. What began as a creative outlet slowly blossomed into a cottage business, shaped by curiosity, care, and a love for the handmade.
Over time, more people asked how they could purchase my products if they didn’t live in Taranaki . That’s when the idea of a website took root.
From our cold-pressed soaps to the way we care for our land, we choose natural ingredients, thoughtful processes, and a deep respect for the environment. We don’t chase perfection— but we embrace authenticity.
If you’re here to explore our handmade products we welcome you to be part of the journey.
